      Count your cash by denomination

Concept diagram: Inputs leads to Count your cash by denomination leads to ResultInputsCount your cash bydenominationResult
      Count your cash by denomination.

Counting cash by denomination multiplies each count by its face value and sums the lines. The Money Counter accepts counts for common US bills and coins. Three $20 bills and four $5 bills total $80. QuickCalculators lists contributing denominations so a mistyped count is easy to spot.

Foreign currency and rare coins need manual valuation outside the default list.

      Total bills and coins

      Total bills and coins.

Totaling bills and coins is the full count-mode result. The Money Counter adds $100, $50, $20, $10, $5 and $1 bills with quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies. Zero counts contribute nothing. QuickCalculators ignores empty lines in the breakdown while still accepting them as inputs.

Drawer audits often compare this total with a register reading from the same shift.

      Make change from an amount

Concept diagram: Inputs leads to Make change from an amount leads to ResultInputsMake change from anamountResult
      Make change from an amount.

Making change from an amount subtracts the amount owed from the amount paid when paid is larger. The Money Counter then breaks the difference into denominations from largest to smallest. Owed $17.45 and paid $20.00 produce $2.55 in change, typically two dollars, two quarters and a nickel under greedy US denominations.

QuickCalculators shows that breakdown for cashier checks.

If paid is less than owed, change is zero in this model; collect the shortfall instead.

Correct a common misconception: any change algorithm always matches every drawer policy.

A common misconception is that every store issues change the same way. Some drawers avoid certain coins or bills. The Money Counter uses a standard greedy breakdown; follow local till rules when they differ.

      Frequently asked questions

How does the Money Counter work?

The Money Counter multiplies denomination counts by face values and sums them, or computes change from owed and paid amounts with a denomination breakdown.

      What is 3 × $20 plus 4 × $5?

Three $20 bills plus four $5 bills equal $80. The Money Counter computes that total from the counts entered.

      How is change calculated?

Change is calculated as amount paid minus amount owed when paid is greater, then split into denominations. The Money Counter returns that breakdown in change mode.

      Which denominations are supported?

Default denominations include $100 through $1 bills and standard US coins down to 1¢. The Money Counter uses that list unless customized elsewhere.

Does the Money Counter handle foreign currency?

The Money Counter defaults to US face values. Convert foreign cash separately before counting.
